A Little More Info

Book Of Days has been around now since 2012, and has been my main offering. In it, my students and I build an art journal (the easiest one you’ll ever make), and then spend the year together learning new ways of meeting ourselves on the page.

The program has shifted over the years to include some things some years and other things other years, but the main point of the program has always been the same: build a book, build a practice, built a body of work, and nurture your inner artist. We will be doing exactly that in 2019, but with a lovely, sparkly twist!

Book Of Days 2019 will be shifting away from its life as a solo endeavour that I have been teaching all by my lonesome, to its new life as a collaborative e-course that includes all of my favourite journal artists – my ‘all stars’ – as well as newly emerging artist-teachers – my ‘rising stars’!

In short, this is an invitation to spend the year with me and my lusciously delicious guest artists and teachers as we bind our own journals (optional), do a deep dive into art journaling, learn new techniques, explore all the ways we use the art journal, and fill our journals up with gorgeous spreads!

Yes! This class is suitable for all levels, and will include in-depth, step-by-step video instructions.

What You’ll Get!

About Your Guest Artists (My All Stars!)

Sarah Trumpp

Sarah Trumpp is a weird muppety girl living in the wilds of New York with her husband and an increasing gaggle of children that may or may not actually be hers.  She is a mixed media artist, yoga instructor, volunteer firefighter, and all-around goofball.  Sarah thinks you’re awesome, and she’s always right.

“My art journal is the place I try new things, keep track of things, and work through things.  It’s also the place I do magical things, mystical things, and straight up weirdo things.”

Sarah will be featured in January of 2019, and throughout the year with water-colour tutorials (three of them!). In the meantime, you can find her on her website here, on Etsy, where she sells her incredifabulous stencils here, and on Facebook here

Tangie Baxter

I work full time as an artist, graphic designer and online workshop instructor (I work with both digital and mixed-media). One of my biggest passions is watercolor (& urban sketching) and I push myself to use the medium past the traditionally accepted methods including in mixed-media projects. I also love playing in Photoshop, getting my hands covered in paint, collecting vintage ephemera, books, and of course, globes. I’ve been published in several Stampington publications, scrapbooking magazines and art books.  I am a firm believer that the true joy of creating is in the process and to begin any creative endeavor is to have already created something beautiful because you honored your divine gift to create.

“My Art journal is the place I experiment with art mediums and my own thoughts and feelings. My journals are a place of discovery, freedom and wild exploration.”

Tangie will be featured in February 2019!. In the meantime you can find her store here, her newsletter here, her YouTube here, and her Instagram here.

Marieke Blokland

Hi! I am Marieke Blokland (1980) from the Netherlands, a self-proclaimed art supplies geek with a passion for art journaling. I love to play with art supplies and express myself visually. My quirky work is often graphical and illustrative. Sometimes raw, sometimes cute and often a little edgy. I love the art from Picasso, Francis Bacon and Grayson Perry a lot, but I can also feel really inspired by watching a Tim Burton movie, and looking at Polish movie posters, old Japanese woodblock prints, African masks, Russian folk art, children’s book illustration, and street art.

“My art journal is the place where I can explore and express myself freely and develop my artistic skills. I explore colors, shapes, typography, composition and idea’s, but also my emotions, my opinion, my beliefs, etc.”

Marieke will be featured in March 2019! In the meantime you can find her website here, her Instagram here, her YouTube here, and her Facebook here.

Cary Cutler ScholesI’m a Virginia Mama (and grandma now, too!). I live with our 14 year old son, husband, 2 cats and 1 huge dog. I grew up in Northern Idaho and Southern Arizona. I have a Bachelor’s degree in English (which I finished almost 25 years after I started!). Luckily, I’ve mostly been a stay-at-home mom. I struggle with major anxiety and depression, which I find hinders and helps my art. I get comments regularly like, “Your girls look so sad!” or “why aren’t they ever smiling?” I find that every face I produce has it’s own personality, and, like actual people, aren’t always portrayed with a huge smile. (I get accused of having a serious RBF!) I have always loved creating things, but really didn’t start arting seriously about 6 years ago. There are a ton of ways to produce art, but I think my favorite is with graphite and acrylics.  I am self-taught (well, I have watched many artists work, taken hundreds of classes, but no professional training).  I have many artistic influences which include Effy Wild, Tam LaPorte, Jane Davenport, and Kara Bullock (just a few of my favs!).

“My art journal is the place I know I can create, quickly, or in a longer process, and it really doesn’t matter if there are “mistakes”. If worst comes to worst, I can turn the page and start fresh.  I have learned from lessons with Effy that the background matters, so I have really taken to using song lyrics and phrases to scribble in the background. It adds so much emotion and really brings the entire piece together.”

Cary will be featured in April 2019! In the meantime, you can find her on Facebook here, Instagram here, and YouTube here.

My name is Iris, I am a London-based mixed media artist. I live in the heart of Bloomsbury with my beautiful family (husband, 2 kids & 1 cat).

My passion is art journaling for self-expression and self-discovery. I love inspiring people to look further and go deeper through art, so they can really follow their inner creativity.

You can often find me at my art desk pursuing my many arty interests like art journaling, abstract painting, playing with art supplies and making mini journals.

Currently my favourite art supplies are: fluorescent pink everything, ultramarine blue, off white & teal paint, Daniel Smith watercolours in Lunar Black, a brayer, black fineliner and red pencil.

My art journal is the place I go to express and discover myself. It’s a place for the expression of my feelings, artistic discovery, experimentation, play and to simply BE.

Tiare SmithBorn with art in her heart, Tiare lost her way from her art for 18 years.  It came back to her life in a burst of emotion and anxiety.  By practicing techniques of love, positive self talk, thoughts and action which have helped her to overcome other areas of struggle, she now enjoys her art in a free and inspiring way. She aims to empower women to express and experience their art more freely.

She has been teaching in the industry for more than 14 years and has enjoyed teaching around the country from the east coast to the west coast.  Her creations have been featured on HGTV, as well as in numerous magazines and creative blogs. She has designed for DecoArts, Faber-Castell Design Memory Crafts and other well known manufacturers.  You can find her art on real wood plaques sold at Hallmark Stores and Christian Bookstores worldwide.

“My art journal is the place where I can be free, where I can express myself and leave the worries, the emotions of the day on the page, where I can be peaceful.”

Tamara Laporte (‘willowing’) is a creative catalyst of thousands of beautiful people. She is a celebrated mixed media artist and art teacher who has been running her own creative business since 2008. Her work can be described as ‘mixed media folk art’ with a focus on ‘magical realism’. It ranges from whimsical children’s illustrations to a more stylised fantasy art. Love, mystery, innocence, hope, spirituality, kindness and self-connection inspires her art work. Symbolism and layering play a big part in her work. Her paintings often contain healing themes, uplifting messages and inspirational poetry.

She believes that the act of creating art can be a gateway into healing and personal growth – often, her art classes contain an element of self development as well as learning art techniques. She is deeply devoted to helping people get in touch with their creative fire and would love to help YOU too to get in touch with the artist in you!

Tam is the inventor and creator of Life Book, a year long art course that includes some of the most celebrated mixed media and personal development teachers out there. Since its inception it’s been joined by over 20,000+ people who’ve gained tremendous artistic and personal skills through it.

Lee Clements

I’m Lee, art journaler, mixed media artist and teacher, wife and mother of 2 living in Melbourne, Australia.

I believe that we all have a creative bone in our body and my aim is to encourage as many people as possible to find theirs. I draw inspiration from the organic beauty of nature and the many facets of the human face and I find calm from the contemplative and meditative practice of mandala making.

If I can inspire someone to explore different forms of expression and find their voice through art journaling then I am content.

“My art journal is the place where I can express myself honestly, unashamedly, unconditionally, thoughtfully and playfully. It is the place that brings me back to centre and grounds me. It is my place of comfort and healing, a place to explore and play, and foremost, a place where I can just ‘be’.”

Lee will be featured in August 2019! In the meantime, you can find her on her website here, on Instagram here, on Facebook here, and on her YouTube Channel.

 Kiala Givehand

Kiala Givehand is a published poet, printmaker, bookbinder, fountain pen collector, and radical nomad. She believes in surrounding herself with ordinary humans who live extraordinary lives, gathering with people who make her laugh & love uncontrollably, and living a life intent on cultivating happiness.A double Capricorn, ambivert who grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, Kiala learned to appreciate and respect hurricanes, humidity, and the transformational powers of the sun, the moon, and the ocean.

She holds six academic degrees in various subjects from various Universities, but the one she cherishes most is her M.F.A. from Mills College where she found and fell in love with Book Art.

Kiala says… “Stories connect us and highlight what is unique about us. I’ve always been a storyteller, relying on words to convey feeling, energy, and information. Learning to make handmade journals changed how I connect & communicate and gave me a way to empower others and encourage them to share their stories. The scribbles in my journals always begin or end with words. I add color and imagery to visually share how I see the world. Art can look multi-layered and complex while being extremely simple and approachable. I use paper, color, mark making, and wordplay to create tangible versions of my stories in hopes of inspiring you to do the same.”

Kiala will also be featured in August 2019! In the meantime, you can find her on YouTube here, on her website here, and on Instagram here.

Micki Wilde

My art is a fusion of pre-planned and intuitive work with the main aim being to create a thought provoking visual tale.

My work is approached in a lighthearted manner with the hope to charm and endear it’s characters to the onlooker and draw them in to my wondrous and whimsical world.I work with a range of different mediums but typically I use; Paint, pencils and a whole lot of love to create layers and help these stories to unfold.

“My art journal is the place I….Play, practice and perfect”
